Obituary for Marilyn "Lynn" (Pond) Bonasia

Marilyn “Lynn” Pond Bonasia was born in Worcester, MA on May 26, 1933. After the tragic death of her parents at the age of seven, Marilyn and her brother Herbert lived with and were raised by their loving Uncle Fred and Aunt Elsie Bardsley and family. As a youngster, Lynn was “Camper of the Year” multiple times at the then Camp Wono on Cape Cod. In high school at Auburn High, she played varsity basketball and was also on the swim team. While attending Colby Junior College in New London, NH studying Secretarial Medical Science, Lynn met her future husband, John Bonasia, from Haverhill, MA.

John and Lynn were married while John was located in San Francisco, CA as an ROTC Officer in the U.S. Navy stationed aboard the USS Talladega. Later, Lynn and John settled in Boxford, MA to raise their four sons. John’s engineering career brought the family to several other states over the years, including Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey and California. Lynn became an interior decorator but was most proud of her time as a devoted mother and homemaker. She loved nature, learned Italian cooking from her mother-in-law, played golf and spent many a day ushering her sons to music lessons and multiple sporting events.

John’s retirement took them to Naples, Florida in the winter months, where they played golf, enjoyed good friends and explored the gulf coast in their Grady White boat nicknamed “Water Hazard”. They also spent the warmer months of their retirement where they first fell in love in Massachusetts – in Mashpee, MA on Cape Cod.

Lynn passed peacefully, surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, John Bonasia, her four sons, Michael, Jeffrey, John Jr. and Peter, her grandsons John and Nicholas Bonasia and niece, Heather Pond, with whom she had a special bond as well as Heather’s sons Jonathan and Christopher.

Services and burial will be held privately for the Bonasia family.
