Norma C. (Caird) Bowen, 86, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at UMASS Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving son and daughter.

Born on July 29, 1934 in Colebrook, NH, Norma was one of two children born to the late Ernest S. and Mabel (Charest) Caird. Raised and educated in Colebrook, Norma graduated from Colebrook Academy and went on to graduate from the Boston School of Dental Nursing. She then started her career with Dr. Alan Marcus in Dover, NH. It was here that she met and married the love of her life, Dr. Gerald E. Bowen, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Prior to making Shrewsbury, MA their forever home, they resided in Hanover, NH; Bethesda, MD; and Chicago, IL as Gerald completed his Internship, Residency and Fellowship.

Once they settled in Shrewsbury, Norma and Gerry started building what became lifelong friendships within the Fallon Clinic community and her Cross Street family. Norma was a long-term member of the Worcester District Medical Society Alliance, and an active participant for many years in the Guild of Our Lady of Providence. She also served as a board member for her second forever home, the Village Condominiums, Waterville Valley, NH.

Throughout her life Norma enjoyed traveling, sailing, skiing, and golfing with family and friends. Norma had a passion for history and was known to be a World War II buff. She enjoyed birdwatching, and was an avid reader and Hallmark movie enthusiast. Norma especially loved her role as the family meteorologist. Most of all, she cherished her grandchildren and the memories they shared together. They were her true pride and joy.

Norma will forever be remembered for her kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, and humility.

She is survived by her son David C. Bowen and his wife Paula, of Cumberland, RI, and her daughter Joan M. Dowd and her husband Gregory, of Shrewsbury; her beloved grandchildren, Alexandra Bowen Greenfield and her husband Allen, Julia Bowen and her fiancé Sean Buckley, and Hannah Dowd, Brendan Dowd, and Andrew Dowd; She is also survived by her brother George Caird, of Colebrook, NH; along with many nieces and nephews.
